I am not seeing Van Halen tomorrow night either as I've seen them many times and refuse to pay $125 to watch a band who is cancelling 30 shows because "they are tired." I preferred Diamond Dave to Sammy too so I may regret one last time seeing them. Other than Kiss and Motley Crue playing in August, not much from my teenage years to see this summer. I'm a sports nut but still enjoy seeing 80's flashbacks too. Seems it's all discos, dance clubs or sports bars.

I liked the older punk like The Ramones and Plasmatics "Wendy O Williams" growing up so I didn't quite feel in place there. However, it seems to be the new Punk type stuff. I can actually walk to a place called Hollywood Alley from where I live. However, there doesn't seem to be many 70's and 80's metal spots left, atleast in East Valley.

If there are more, feel free to let me know. Off the top of my head, Rob Halford from Judas Priest, Alice Cooper, Bret Michaels from Poison and Dave Mustaine from Megadeth all have or still reside here. Having grown up on that music, I am glad to be a part of the community now. Halford.Prior to moving here in January, I was aware that quite a few famous rockers from the 70's and 80's made their home in Phoenix. Note: Thanks to blog reader André for suggesting a post on Mr.

Although he did not acquire a drivers license until he was 38 years old, he is an avid collector of classic cars, including a prized 1970s-era Aston Martin DBS. These days he resides in homes in Amsterdam, Phoenix, San Diego and his native England. Halford has been clean and sober since successfully completing rehab in 1986 for a painkiller overdose. The band has sold more than 30 million albums and won numerous Grammy Awards along the way. In 2011 at age 60, Halford participated in what was billed as Judas Priest’s final tour. By 2003 Halford had rejoined Judas Priest and participated in their around the world tour (2005) to celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary. In 1992 Halford and Judas Priest drummer Scott Travis left the band to form Fight, eventually moving on to other projects. His personal struggles are reflected in the gay and S&M themes of some Judas Priest songs, such as "Raw Deal" and "Pain and Pleasure". He later confessed that hiding his sexuality during his career with Judas Priest caused him a lot of depression and isolation, leading to alcohol and drug abuse. No stranger to shock value, Halford was known to ride a motorcycle on stage and fire a machine gun into the crowds (loaded with blanks, of course).

He claimed that this was an attempt to find an outlet for the angst caused by his hidden sexuality, while giving him a professional reason to frequent S&M shops. In 1990, with the release of Painkiller, the band dropped its synthesizer sound, and Halford unveiled his new look: tattoos, a shaved head and studded leather biker/S&M outfits. A dozen albums later the band changed its appearance and sound.

Judas Priest was formed in 1974, and their first album was released that same year.
